Launching your first course
A start-to-finish path from "I just signed up" to "I sold my first course." Each step links to the detailed guide — this page is the running order.
Quick answer
Sign up, finish onboarding, set your brand, connect Stripe, build the course, set a price, publish, and test by buying it yourself. The whole thing fits in an afternoon if your lessons are ready.
Before you start
You'll have an easier time if these are already in hand:
- A Klixey account on a plan that fits your scale. See Klixey plans at a glance.
- A rough course outline — modules and lessons mapped out on paper or in a notes app.
- Your lesson videos ready to upload (or a plan to record them as you go).
- A logo, a banner image, and the colors you want your storefront to use.
- A business that can accept payments through Stripe in one of Klixey's supported currencies.
The playbook
1. Create your workspace
Sign up at app.klixey.com and finish the one-page onboarding wizard — pick a store name and slug, and you land on a fresh dashboard with a starter page already set up.
→ Creating your account · Onboarding
2. Set up your storefront identity
Open the store editor and set the things customers will see first: the store name, the slug (the part after klixey.com/), and the brand profile — your logo, colors, and fonts. Everything on your storefront and in your customer emails picks up the brand profile.
→ Storefront basics · Brand profile
3. Connect Stripe to accept payments
Open Workspace settings → Payments and connect Stripe. Without this step, the paid checkout pages on your storefront refuse to load. Only the workspace owner can do this — the bank account behind the payouts is theirs.
4. Create the course product
Open Products, pick Add product, and choose Course. You'll land on a fresh course with placeholder copy. Give it a name, a short description, and a banner image. Autosave keeps everything as you type — see Autosave.
5. Add the welcome video
The welcome video plays before a customer reaches their first lesson. Use it to set expectations, introduce yourself, and walk them through how the course is structured.
6. Build modules and lessons
Add modules in the order you want students to take them, then add lessons inside each module. Each lesson supports a video, written text, and downloadable resources. Drag to reorder.
7. Set pricing
Open the Pricing section and pick a mode — One-time (pay once, lifetime access) or Full (one-time and a subscription tier). Type the amount, choose the interval if it's a subscription, and you're done.
8. Publish the course
Flip the product's status from Draft to Listed. The course now shows up on your storefront and the checkout URL goes live.
9. Tighten checkout and confirmation copy
The default text is fine, but a few minutes here pays off. Customise the checkout headline, the order-confirmation message, and the access email — that's the first impression a paying customer gets.
→ Editing checkout and confirmation copy · How checkout works · Post-purchase experience
10. Test it yourself
Buy your own course with a real card from a second email address (or a Stripe test card if you're still in test mode). Confirm you got the confirmation email, that the access link worked, that the welcome video played, and that the first lesson opened cleanly.
Use a different email
Your own creator email already belongs to a workspace. Use a personal email — or a friend's — so you go through the same flow a real customer would.
What customers see at the end
After all that, here's the path a buyer walks:
- They land on your storefront, click the course card, and hit the checkout page.
- They pay and immediately see an order confirmation.
- They get two emails — a receipt from Stripe and a Klixey access email with a one-click sign-in link. → Magic link vs password
- The link drops them into the course. They watch the welcome video.
- They open the first lesson and start learning. Progress is tracked automatically.
Common things to tighten before you launch
Run through this quick checklist on the day you publish:
- [ ] Banner image has alt text for screen readers.
- [ ] Course description matches what's actually in the lessons (no overselling).
- [ ] Lesson durations on the outline match the videos you uploaded.
- [ ] Welcome video plays cleanly on mobile.
- [ ] Your refund policy is mentioned somewhere on the checkout or confirmation copy.
- [ ] You can find the course in your own customer portal after a test purchase.
Refund policy
Customers will ask. Decide your policy before you launch and write it into the checkout copy and confirmation email — it's much easier than handling it case-by-case later. See Refunds, failed payments, and disputes.
After launch
The first few sales are the most important. Watch these:
- Income dashboard — every successful payment lands here in real time. → Income
- Customer list — every buyer appears as a contact. Reach out to the first few personally; it's the best feedback you'll ever get. → Customer list · Customer detail
- In-app notifications — Klixey rings the bell on every sale so you don't have to refresh. → In-app notifications
- Store traffic — once a few customers have bought, look at where they came from. → Store traffic
If a payment fails or a customer asks for a refund, the process is the same as for any other product. → When a payment fails · Refunds, failed payments, and disputes
