Magic link vs password

There are two ways into your customer portal:

1. Magic link — a one-tap link in an email. No password to remember.
2. Password — a traditional email-and-password sign-in.

Klixey picks the right one for each customer automatically. Neither you nor the customer has to choose.

How Klixey decides

The customer has set a password	A standard sign-in link (their email is pre-filled when they arrive)

The first time a customer is emailed — after a purchase, a community invite, or being added to a course manually — Klixey checks: does this person already have a password for this store? If not, the email contains a magic link. If yes, it links to the sign-in page.

Each store is separate

A password on Creator A's store doesn't sign a customer in on Creator B's store. Every store has its own customer accounts — a customer might have a password on one and use magic links on another.

Magic links

A magic link signs the customer in with one tap. They appear in:

• Course enrollment emails when you add a customer manually
• Community welcome and invite emails
• Subscription welcome emails for new customers
• Any "here's your access" email sent before the customer has set a password

Magic links are valid for 7 days. After that, the link won't sign anyone in — but a customer can always go to the portal sign-in page and request a fresh one via Forgot password.

One link, one use

Each magic link works once. If a customer clicks it and gets signed in on their phone, the same link won't sign them in on their laptop. They can request another or use Forgot password to set one themselves.

Setting up a password

A customer can switch to a password at any time:

1. They open any email from you that contains a Set up your password button.
2. They choose a password.
3. From then on, future emails link to the sign-in page instead of containing magic links.

If a customer forgets their password, they use the Forgot password link on the sign-in page. Klixey emails a reset link valid for 60 minutes.

The two emails

Two emails are easy to confuse:

• Set up your password — first time. Used to create a password.
• Reset your password — when one's been forgotten. Used to choose a new one.

Reset links expire fast

Password reset links last 60 minutes. If one expires, the customer requests another from the sign-in page — there's no limit.
